Spring Quarter Mixed Media Competition Call For Works!
The Health & Wellness Department at the Savannah College of Art and Design invites all students, faculty, staff and members of the Savannah Community to submit work for the first annual “Prevention Party”, a celebration of diversity among students. The party will feature food and music. There will be artwork focusing on the prevention of HIV, unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. The party will be held Saturday May 8th, 2004 at Orleans Hall at the Savannah College of Art and Design from 7:30 – 10:00 pm.
The exhibition and related activities are a product of collaboration between the Health and Wellness Department, LAMBDA and CULTURA student organizations, SCAD Residence Life, Memorial Student Health Clinic, First City Network, Latin American Services Organization (LASO), Chatham County Health Department, Planned Parenthood, My Brothaz Home, and Project Azuka.
The entries may be used on a regional or national basis to promote the HIV/STD prevention message.
Interested artists should submit work according to the guidelines below:
• Each artist may submit up to three pieces for consideration.
• Work in any two- and three-dimensional media is welcome.
• All work must be professionally presented. All two-dimensional work must be professionally framed and ready to hang, equipped with screw eyes and wire or other appropriate hanging materials.
• Work may not exceed 60” in any direction.
• Submissions are not required to reflect student’s major.
• All artist submissions must relate to the specific goals of increasing the awareness of risk behaviors. In order to adequately prepare/develop their submissions, artists are encouraged to visit the Center For Disease Control website at http://www.cdc.gov/ or call the Health and Wellness Department at 525-6971 for HIV/STD Prevention educational materials.
• Artists should also submit a brief artist statement with their submission (no longer than 200 words) that addresses either their personal reactions to participating in this prevention event or HIV/STD prevention in general.
• Special installation needs or equipment requirements must be submitted in writing along with the work. Please include diagrams if necessary.
• Film/Video or Animation submissions must be no longer than 14 minutes in length and must be submitted in VCR and DVD format.
• As exhibition space is limited, all submissions undergo a selection process.
Drop off date and location: Monday, May 3, 2004 - 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.: American Hall, 7 Drayton St., 4th Floor, rm 413
This is the only date that work will be accepted for exhibition. No late entries will be considered for exhibition.
Awards will be given to outstanding works selected for exhibition:
2D/3D Competition (Grant funded by the Savannah Foundation and the American College Health Association in partnership with The Savannah College of Art & Design’s Health & Wellness Department, must be included on all work submitted).
1st Prize: $400.00
2nd Prize: $200.00
3rd Prize: $150.00
Film/Video/Animation Competition (Grant funded by The American College Health Association in partnership with The Savannah College of Art & Design’s Health & Wellness Department, must be included on all work submitted).
1st Prize: $700.00
2nd Prize: $350.00
3rd Prize: $250.00
Artist Statement Awards:

Honorable Mention: $50.00
