I have a cold. :(

But that's not what I want to post about.

What I would like to post about is movie theatre patrons...
...and how I would love to slap most of them in the face.

Tuesday night my friend [livejournal.com profile] nobora, who I went on the famous cross country roadtrip with last summer, was driving to Santa Cruz and wanted to visit for the night. While waiting for her to arrive, [livejournal.com profile] dhbearguy and [livejournal.com profile] beg1n asked me to join them for an impromptu viewing of The Omen at the metreon which I was pretty excited to see.

I walked out of the movie theatre 1/3 of the way through.

-2 hours. Is it SO hard to NOT TALK for 2 hours?
-Just because there is no dialogue going on in the particular scene, DOESN'T mean you get to chat and discuss with those around you.
-You were talking, I turned around and asked you to stop. Then you started talking in spanish like that was going to magically makeme NOT hear you?
-DO NOT TEXT MESSAGE IN THE THEATRE if you are not willing to go to GREAT lengths to make sure NO one see's your screen.
-If you go to a scary movie, there is going to be scary parts. Yes, you will get scared when you're not expecting it. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT AFTER THE SCARY PART YOU GET TO DISCUSS WITH YOUR FRIENDS HOW SCARY IT WAS AND HOW MUCH IT SCARED YOU AND HOW FUNNY IT WAS THAT YOU JUMPED OUT OF YOUR SEAT.
-It's The Omen. The little boy is going to be creepy, I don't need to hear you talk about it everytime he acts weird. He's a demon child, get over it.
-If you insist on eating popcorn, or things with crinkly wrapping, WAIT UNTIL LOUD SCENES like city scenes, or scenes with a lot of background noise before you MAN HANDLE YOUR FOOD AND RAVAGE THE PACKAGING! If the movie scene is silent, it's supposed to be for a reason.

I couldn't even focus on the movie, and I had to leave or I was going to punch someone.
Apparently going to a movie theatre, sitting there, and watching a movie, has become hard to some people.

Those people should wait for the DVD release. Then they can talk and eat loudly all they want.

But I ask, where are the people WORKING at the theatres? People talk because they know they can get away with it.

I have this idea though that sparked from this horrible movie experience....

I think all movie theatres should start looking into installing headphone jacks and volume knobs in the seat handles, just like airplane seats. THAT WAY if you wanted to you could bring head phones, or for $2 buy headphones (the theatres would make a little extra money), or you could just listen to theatres speakers.

It would be the movie viewers choice between loud surround sound, or personalized headphone speakers.
Then if people won't stop talking, I can turn up my headphones and make them dead to me.

ps. the visit with [livejournal.com profile] nobora was short was it was SO great to see her!
