10 DAYS OF EVENTS FOR BEAR WEEK
SAN FRANCISCO (AUGUST 31, 20008 ) - Celebrating its fifth anniversary this year, the Bear Community's annual Hairrison Street Fair takes place Sunday, August 31 on Harrison and 12th Streets in the City's South-Of-Market district. Much like Folsom Street Fair is the centerpiece of leather week, “Hairrison” is the main attraction of 10 days of special events that comprise Bear Week.
Responding to community surveys, organizers have redesigned the fair with added emphasis on creating places with seating so guys can hang out and relax. “One of the great things about Hairrison is that it we still have the feel of a community block party that is more mellow and low key than some of the big fairs in town,” according to20event founder and organizer Pete King. “We want to maintain that easy going atmosphere which is very much in step with the bears, but take it to a new level. So we're making each block unique, like parties within a party, each consisting of places for people to sit and soak up the sun, check out the crowd, and enjoy some great food, drinks and music.”
The Budweiser Main Stage will house live music from six terrific bands including The Ethel Merman Experience, ejector and 80/86 with short acts in between including comedian Marga Gomez, pie eating contests, and a special goldilocks and the three naughty bears drag performance.
Across the fair, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will host Fur Beach, a kitchy area of blow up beach toys and fake palms with a dunk tank and blow up bounce castle and classic 70s and 80s tea dance music provided by DJs Byron, Andy Gutierrez and Jim Hopkins.
The Main Dance area is sponsored by Energy 92.7 and features the big guns; Matt Consola of Sanctuary, Bud Chisam of Powerhouse, and Pete Savas of Real Bad.
The fourth space is the new Team Bear Community Zone, which will have bean bag cuddle and massage tents as well as over a dozen health, sport and wellness exhibitors. The music will be provided by DJs from KUMA, Bootie and Bearracuda; DJ Agent Adam, DJ Boy sh aped Box and DJ 50 Pound Note.
Other new features this years fair are the Bare Foot Wine Garden and the Sanctuary Lounge. Bear Tags are on sale now on the website.
